Collateral Damage

Lillian Moats mural

Lillian Moats

Chicago, IL

In this painting, we see through a gun sight that a village has been targeted. The close-up of a young girl from the village, seated quietly beside a window reminds us of the humanity behind casualty figures. If we are to end wars, we can’t allow ourselves to see violence as a remote abstraction. The painting was done for the benefit of American Friends Service Committee in 2007.
