Violence Destroys Dreams
WHATSOEVER COMMUNITY CENTER KIDS, KANSAS CITY, MO
With Center staff, Crystal Rice and Allison GreeningCarla Alvarez, Elizabeth Porres, Tony Camtu,Meta Gutierrez, Beto Gutierrez, AJ, Joey Ambol and Avery Cole with artist Wolfgang Bucher
The Whatsoever Kids found similarities between their lives in the Northeast KC and the lives of children in Afghanistan. The two sides depict the difficulties each group faces; fly-overs, intimidation from gangs, random violence. And they also share the some of the same fun; kite flying and friendship. Both groups have dreams as depicted in the center by a hill of flowers representing ideas and dreams they give birth to. A "bomb" representing violence collides with the flower hill and kills the flowers causing an explosion of broken hearts. On the horizon on each side storm clouds of trouble approach. Each group of kids has no control over the coming storms.
